New Conductor for Summer Symphony Camp
Icicle Creek Center for the Arts has announced Adrienne Shields as its Conductor for the 2018 Summer Symphony.
Adrienne Shields currently serves as the Music Director of the Mid-Columbia Youth Symphony and as the Assistant Conductor of the Mid-Columbia Symphony. She is also the Music Director for the Ellensburg High School Winter Musical and a recurring Music Director for the Valley Musical Theatre. She has previously served as Assistant Conductor for the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra, Guest Conductor for the Yakima Youth Symphony Orchestra, Assistant Conductor for the Central Washington University Symphony Orchestra and Opera Production, and Guest Conductor for the Kittitas Valley Youth Orchestra.
An advocate for arts education, Shields has coordinated annual orchestra festivals for high school students at Central Washington University and Pacific Lutheran University. She has been invited as a guest clinician by Ellensburg School District, Yakima Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Faith Bible High School in Hillsboro, Oregon. She has also served as a judge for the Harp division of the WIAA/WMEA Washington State Solo and Ensemble Contest and the YYSO Concerto competition.
She remains active as a performing musician. As a harpist, she has played with several ensembles including Olympia Symphony, Tacoma Concert Band, and Tacoma Opera. She has most recently played for Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra and CWU Symphony Orchestra. Last year, she joined CWU Wind Ensemble to record the music of Alan Hovahness for Naxos Media Library.
Shields holds a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting and Vocal Performance/Pedagogy from Central Washington University and a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree in Harp from Pacific Lutheran University.
The Summer Symphony Camp is an inspiring and intensive week of orchestral study and performance for young musicians in a spectacular North Cascade Mountain setting. Under the leadership of acclaimed music directors and coaches, this program allows talented young musicians to participate in intermediate and advanced musical studies. The atmosphere is challenging and at the same time, highly supportive and welcoming.
