A member of the ICCA board since fall of 2022, James Mitsuyasu teaches concert band, jazz band, percussion, orchestra, and guitar at Eastmont High School in East Wenatchee. Prior to Eastmont, he spent nine years teaching 6th-12th grade band in Leavenworth. In addition to his regular music classes, James has also conducted the pit orchestras for school musicals or helped on the technical side of his school’s theater productions, and he’s spent many summers as a musician & conductor for Leavenworth Summer Theater. He also occasionally plays clarinet or bass clarinet with the Wenatchee Symphony. In fall 2024, he’ll start his term as president of the North Central chapter of the Washington Music Educators Association. In his free time, James enjoys finding ways to spend more time at work, collecting instruments he doesn’t need, and playing with his dog Rosie. If he must go outdoors, he likes riding his bike or going on easy hikes. James graduated as a clarinet performance major from Whitworth University, and returned there for his Master’s in Teaching degree. He was a 2011-2012 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Germany.
