Mike Caemmerer Returns from Theater Festival Hong Kong
Michael Caemmerer, Director of Programming at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts, has recently returned from a three-day intensive theater festival in Hong Kong.
One hundred students from 10 different international schools in Asia came together for the event at the Hong Kong Academy. The students were divided into five groups, and Caemmerer led one of the groups through the process of creating original works for theater. With about 18 hours of workshops, the students collaborated to create intense pieces of drama using principles, theories, and conventions of theater. The skills they learned at this festival are also designed to directly assist them in their studies in the International Baccalaureate Theater program, in which they are all enrolled.
Caemmerer was recruited by The International Schools Theater Association, which hosts theater festivals and workshops around the world for students and teachers. Over the past 12 years, Caemmerer has conducted workshops for the organization in London, Stratford, New York, New Delhi, Oman, Kuala Lumpur, Atlanta, and Sacramento.
“The magic of working with theater students who have broad cultural experiences is truly a gift to me. The products are stunning to watch, but the real joy is in watching their creative process. I am fortunate to play even a small part in helping them pursue their theater studies,” explained Caemmerer.
Caemmerer has served as the Director of Programming at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts since the spring of 2014. Read Michael’s Bio Here.
